A Diverse Program

For three days, delegates had a wealth of content options across three simultaneous streams, each a mix of invited speakers and abstract authors presenting cutting-edge research. The poster gallery and exhibition area served as hubs of networking and knowledge exchange. Running alongside the main conference was a specialized sub-conference for the World Poultry Science Association (WPSA), adding an extra layer of complexity and value to the event.

Beyond the Conference

We believe in creating experiences that go beyond presentations. Delegates were treated to:

• A casual welcome reception at the historic Robinsons Bar, including a quiz and pool tournament
• An elegant Conference Dinner at the prestigious Belfast City Hall
• WPSA Conference Dinner at the iconic Europa Hotel
• Optional site visits to Thompsons Feeding Innovation in Belfast and the Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute in Hillsborough

A Ministerial Opening

The conference kicked off with a local welcome from Andrew Muir, Minister of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs. His presence drew a large, eager crowd, setting an inspiring tone for the days ahead and providing context of the role agriculture plays in the economy.

An 80th Anniversary Celebration

The Conference Dinner at Belfast City Hall wasn't just a meal – it was an ode to the 1940’s in celebration of BSAS's 80th anniversary. A swing band had delegates tapping their feet, while artists sketched caricatures, and a photo booth captured memories with vintage props.

Managing a Conference Within a Conference

The addition of the WPSA sub-conference brought its own organizing committee, program, and speakers. This required deft management and additional resources, showcasing Abbey's ability to handle complex, multi-faceted events seamlessly.

Navigating International Participation

A recurring challenge for BSAS has been abstract submissions from Low and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs) without corresponding registrations, creating programming and financial planning issues. We implemented a strategic approach of enforcing strict registration payment deadlines, providing visa support and executing clear communication plan about deadlines and consequences. This delicate balance ensured fair participation while maintaining the conference's integrity and financial viability.

The success of BSAS 2024 was just the beginning. We're thrilled to continue this journey with BSAS as we have been selected to work with them on smaller meetings as well as their annual conferences BSAS 2025 in Galway, Ireland and BSAS 2026.
