Community impact

Abbey Conferences is part of Abbey Group.

At Abbey Group we are committed to responsible tourism that minimises environmental and social impacts. We believe that travel should enrich the communities that welcome us, preserving local culture, supporting small businesses, and contributing to long‑term economic resilience. Through thoughtful partnerships, sustainable practices, and community‑focused initiatives, we aim to ensure that every journey we create leaves a positive legacy.

Mission towards goodness

Social responsibility

As we are aware that tourism activities can have a negative impact on local communities, we offer the following support:

Engagement with local communities

Engagement with local communities in a respectful and ethical manner, supporting community-based tourism initiatives, and ensuring that tourism benefits are distributed equitably. For example we partner with SCOTO, a network of community tourism enterprises located throughout Scotland.

Investing in community development projects

Investing in community development projects that benefit local residents. For example we partner and financially support Invisible Cities who are a social enterprise training people affected by homelessness to become tour guides in their home cities.

Promoting responsible behaviour

Promoting responsible behaviour among our tour guides, drivers, and visitors by providing information on local customs and traditions, sharing the Leave No Trace code of outdoor conduct and the UK Countryside Code, and encouraging visitors to support local businesses while on tour.

Being transparent about our sustainability policy and practices

We are transparent about our sustainability policy and practices, regularly review them, collect feedback from stakeholders and strive for continuous improvements. This ensures that we stay accountable and take action where necessary.

Green internal communication on reducing ecological footprint

Launching green marketing campaigns to educate and empower staff on reducing their ecological footprint, for example use an eco-bag for shopping, a reusable water bottle or a cup to reduce your plastic waste.

Green internal communication on supporting neighbourhood businesses

Shop, eat and drink locally to support neighbourhood businesses which keeps people employed and circulates money back into the community.

Sustainability pre-tour briefing

As you prepare for your visit to Ireland and the UK, we encourage you to travel responsibly and help protect the local environment, communities, and cultural heritage. By making small changes in how we travel, we can make a big difference. Here are some useful guidelines and resources.

Environmental & Community Impact reporting form

At Abbey Group we are committed to responsible tourism that minimises environmental and social impacts. We value the observations and feedback of our guests, suppliers, and local communities to help us continuously improve our operations.

This form allows you to report:
— Any environmental concerns (e.g., littering, pollution, habitat disturbance).
— Any disruptions to local communities (e.g., restricted access to sites, strain on local services).
— Any suggestions for how we can enhance our sustainability efforts.

Your input helps us ensure that our tours remain sustainable, respectful, and beneficial for both visitors and local communities. You may submit this form anonymously, but if you would like a response, please provide your contact details.

Thank you for supporting responsible tourism!
